Our four knowledge centres, Animation, Photography, Media Design and Graphic Design, offer BA, MA, PhD and extracurricular programmes, as well as high standards of education, an open-minded environment, and state-of-the-art technological background.

Programmes

Our Animation BA programme focuses on the development of professional and theoretical knowledge and an individual vision, covering the essentials of animation storytelling, the authentic representation of characters, and the design of animated visuals, characters and backgrounds.

Content development is at the heart of the programme, which teaches students the different roles and processes of animation production as well as and the use of immersive and emerging technologies (AR, VR, MR). The main pillars of the Animation MA programme are developing independent perspectives, finding an individual artistic voice and creative method, and mastering a responsible design approach.

Students of the Photography BA programme can learn the basiscs of classic and contemporary photography and interdisciplinary creative strategies from illustrious teachers, in small group, using state-of-the-art technologies, to become style setters globally.

Whether it is developing creative communication or video content, producing visual landscapes, experimenting with new technologies or creating kinetic installations, our Media Design BA programme offers a solid knowledge base and media design approach.

The Media Design MA programme prepares students to become – as multimedia designers – key players and leaders in creating media artworks, as well as in the creative processes of the creative, entertainment, and advertistement industries, media arts, and applied visual design.

Our Photography MA programme trains open-minded and highly autonomous artists who are able to respond sensitively and progressively to the challenges of the world, supported by state-of-the-art technology and renowned teachers.

Students of the BA in Graphic Design are internationally competitive in their ability to use visuality as a tool for communicating and interpreting information. The course takes you through media such as posters, books, visual identity and interactive digital interfaces.

The aim of the Graphic Design MA programme is to train graphic designers who are able to respond sensitively and progressively to global and local challenges and apply their knowledge in their role as an initiator in social, cultural and artistic projects.

Our University has been invited to exhibit at one of the world's most prestigious digital art festivals, the Ars Electronica 2024. Each year, the Campus series of the long-standing festival presents an art university. This year's exhibition is organised in collaboration with the University of Linz, and will feature outstanding student diploma works from recent years in Linz's main square selected by curators Judit Eszter Kárpáti, Esteban de la Torre, and Ágoston Nagy.

This year's diploma exhibition at MOME features a variety of innovative projects including a bed for lifelong use, revitalised buildings, self-exploratory photography projects, and an eye-friendly typeface. How do today's university students think? Where do they see the intersection of art, design, and the creative industry in 2024? What local and global influences shape their work? Spanning the spaces of the Zugligeti Road campus, the 2024 diploma exhibition displays the final projects of the twelve Master's programmes of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) and is open to the public until 21 June. To quote the university's namesake, László Moholy-Nagy, “Designing is not a profession but an attitude”, a proactive attempt to improve the world. The diploma exhibition is a reflection of this idea, showcasing the attitudes of graduates who are capable, sensitive, and professionally mature. We most certainly expect to hear more of many of them in the future.

Winning projects include a hearing aid doubling as jewellery, a narrative video game, multimedia visuals, and several revitalisation projects. The certificates were presented personally by the eponym of the scholarship, world-renowned product designer and MOME Professor Emeritus Stefan Lengyel at the awards ceremony, which was a great honour to both the scholarship recipients and the university staff. The sixteen students will receive the scholarship for a period of 5 months to work on further elaborating their concepts.

The aim is to train open-minded designers who can respond sensitively to environmental, social and cultural processes and stand for the highest standards of quality. It seeks to enhance the competitiveness of MOME graduate designers both in the national and international arena, helping them carve out a niche in the industry for themselves.

We aim to ensure that students of our institute as well as of the design institutes have an in-depth understanding of art in its social, historical and conceptual context, can play an active role in its creation, and are able to mediate it in both informal and formal (classes, critiques, papers, exhibitions) settings.

In our vision artistic spatial design, negotiation skills and engineering knowledge form a unit that builds on each other. The Institute aims to train responsible professionals endowed with creative power, with equal weight of tradition and innovation.
