MOME’s Tomorrow belongs to you – For the creative talents of the future just launched

Date: 2024.02.12
Providing an opportunity for 23 young talents from Hungary’s poorest regions to pursue creative studies, the Tomorrow belongs to you – For the creative talents of the future programme launched on 9 February with a host of community and professional activities, and a tour of Budapest.

Participants will receive a grant, free creative training, and personalised professional and mental support from the unique programme of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.

The scholarship recipients began their semester of creative skill development on 9 February at the opening event on the MOME Campus, touring the animation, graphic design, product design, and architecture workshops, the MOME residence hall, and meeting the mentor team of MOME students. The professional part of the event was followed by community activities offering a chance to share personal stories, and a sightseeing tour to discover the attractions of Budapest.

“Our programme is specifically directed at reaching out to disadvantaged high school-age talents living far from the capital, using a systematic and long-term approach. We see success as a participant gaining admission not just to Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, but to any higher education institution, and as catalysing a shift in perspective for them”, said President of the MOME Foundation Gergely Böszörményi-Nagy.

Announced in summer 2023, the scholarship programme attracted nearly 100 applicants, whom the expert team touring the country met and interviewed in Pécs, Békéscsaba, Miskolc, and Debrecen to understand the challenges they face, their interests, their greatest dreams, and their ideas about their further education. The selection process concluded in Budapest on the MOME Campus. A quarter of the scholarship recipients come from Szabolcs county, and many from Békés, Borsod or Baranya, including Alsózsolca, Ecsegfalva, Hejőbába, Szerencs and Tiszaszőlős.

The selection was made by an expert team, which included certified therapist, talent management professional Éva Gyarmathy, product designer and MOME current General Deputy Rector and future Rector Pál Koós, philosopher, literary author, associate professor at MOME and head of the student mentoring programme Eszter Babarczy, psychologist  Eszter Lóki, doctoral student and former scholarship recipient of the MCC Roma Talent Programme Renáta Rontó, group lead for upward convergence at the Hungarian Interchurch Aid Anett Jákfalvi, and professional consultant for the programme and General Manager of the National Talent Center Dóra Sándor-Kovács.

The joint initiative of the Foundation for Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design is designed to create opportunities for disadvantaged high school talents from the countryside to build a creative career and pursue further studies, and will involve the high schoolers making regular visits to MOME Campus to engage in preparatory and workshop sessions, consultations, and various community activities. With guidance and support from mentors and university students throughout the two-year training, they will ultimately develop their own creative portfolios, paving the way to MOME or another higher education institution. A declared purpose of the programme is to empower students with solid, future-proof knowledge, experience, and confidence they can later put to use in any area of life.
