Marcell Nagy, who graduated from MOME in 2019, had plans to take the AMG brand in new directions, and in fact he inadvertently beat Mercedes engineers to the punch.
However, he discovered this only later, during his internship at AMG, when the company showed him a model with a similar design to his own. Nagy says he has always seen motor racing as a gladiator fight. Reports of boring races got the young designer thinking about how to bring the excitement back to the race track. His solution was to combine the worlds of Formula-1 and WRC in a racing car that can adapt to different terrains.
An open-wheeled track car operates under completely different conditions and according to totally different rules than a rally car. So in the pit lane sections, this multi-component vehicle – which follows the traditional Mercedes design language similar to the AMG One design’s DNA – is transformed: the all-electric drive system allows, for example, for the wheels to move apart, thus changing the wheelbase or even the axle track. Marcell Nagy currently runs his own design studio, AETRAL.
