Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design
Makovényi Terrace
Project overview
Steven Makovényi (1926–2009), born István Makovényi, studied at the Hungarian College of Arts and Design before leaving Hungary in the 1950s. As a successful interior designer and leading designer, he designed numerous exhibitions for the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum complex.
Having followed the growth of his alma mater with appreciation, he later in his life made a substantial donation to our University, which considered it important to name a place on campus after this generous benefactor. Thus, the newly constructed MOME ONE rooftop terrace has been named Makovényi Terrace.
Its stunning panorama and broad horizon symbolise openness to the world and underscores the importance of personal, human connections that persist across great distances.
