GET READY FOR MOME GRADUATION 2024

Though recurring every year, each MOME graduation period is unique, with a number of object and concept designs and artworks. Once again, there will be public diploma defences to take place between 3 and 20 June. The good news is that the MOME Diploma Exhibition showcasing the masterworks will be open longer this year, from 15 to 21 June at various locations across the Campus. Also, students from the first MA programmes to have launched in English language will be graduating this year.

Photography and Interaction Design, the first Master’s programmes offered by MOME entirely in English language, were launched in 2022. The first graduates of these programmes, recruited from the Central Eastern European region and also from Hungary, will receive their degree in 2024 after successfully defending their theses.

The MOME Graduation event series, with over three hundred students, comprises several important stages, starting from the portrait photo shoot, all the way to the ceremonial presentation of the diplomas.

Traditionally, a student or group of students is selected, based on entries submitted, to develop a concept for and shoot the portrait photos of graduating students and design the visual identity for the graduation. In 2024 the visual identity has been designed by Graphic Design MA Réka Lantos while the portrait photos were taken by Photography MA students Daniella Grinberg and Benjámin Melegh. These will appear on various platforms, such as social media, the graduation ceremony, and the online interface showcasing each graduating student.

As part of the public diploma defences students will present their masterworks, theses, and portfolios to the examination boards. The detailed schedule for each MA programme with the dates, times, and venues, as well as information about the exhibition in a breakdown by programme will be available on a graduation-related subsite.

Once again, MOME’s graduation ceremony will feature world-renowned creative professionals and artists whose career and oeuvre can serve as a model for the students, providing graduating students with takeaway and inspiration for the future.

Outstanding student achievements at the 37th National Scientific Students' Associations Conference

Seven first-place prizes, five third-place finishes, and two special recognitions – the 37th OTDK, the most prestigious Hungarian science and art competition for university students, was held in Eger from 23 to 25 April, with MOME students achieving unprecedented success. Our students won a total of fourteen awards in the Arts and Humanities Section, which saw the participation of 400 students.

Future Traditions 2.0 – MOME MA students’ debut in Istanbul

How can traditional folk art, its associated ancient craft techniques, and materials be reimagined through the lens of contemporary design? This is the central question explored by the Future Traditions programme, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and has become a defining component of the Fashion and Textile Design MA programme at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME). In 2024, the programme took place as part of the Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Season, with MOME students collaborating for a semester with Istanbul's Marmara University. The results of this collaboration will be showcased in an exhibition at the Hungarian Cultural Centre in Istanbul.
