Csaba Kovács nominated for acting rector by the MOME Senate

Date: 2025.03.06
During the extraordinary Senate session on 3 March, Ybl and Prima Primissima Award-winning architect and university professor Csaba Kovács was elected with 70% of the vote to serve as acting rector of the university. Following the vote, a confidence vote saw more than 90% of the Senate supporting his nomination, and his candidacy has now been submitted to the Board of Trustees for approval. The Board of Trustees will discuss this nomination at its next meeting.

“This is a historic opportunity for MOME to embrace the possibilities opened by students and shape its future guided by its own values, traditions, and the anticipated demands of the future.” The acting rector considers strengthening university autonomy one of his key priorities, along with reassessing the question of professional autonomy at the level of small professional communities, student and faculty communities, and larger professional communities. “We are also looking at evaluating and rethinking the ‘University of the Future’ programme. We need to allocate space and time for discussions, decision-making, and preparing for changes. All this could take place as part of a consolidation process, where the viewpoints and opinions of all relevant stakeholders are given proper consideration. I ask for the cooperation of the community so that we can work together to accomplish the necessary tasks and our shared goals,” said Csaba Kovács before the MOME Senate.

The term of the acting rector will last until a new rector is appointed by the President of the Hungary, but no longer than until 1 September 2026. Beyond the above and the smooth running of academic operations, the acting rector’s main responsibilities include working closely with the CEO to build the framework for future collaboration with the Board of Trustees and prepare the process for selecting the next rector.
