25 students in need can benefit from MOME’s scholarship programme shortly

Date: 2024.02.01
80 high schoolers from all over the country have applied to the ‘Tomorrow belongs to you – For the creative talents of the future’ scholarship programme of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. The mission of the initiative launched jointly by the Foundation for Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and MOME is to create opportunities for young talents living in Hungary’s poorest regions to pursue creative studies.

The project team of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) has recently gone on a tour of the country, concluded by a presentation at the Nádudvar Folk Arts and Crafts High School and Residence Hall (Nádudvari Népi Kézműves Szakgimnázium és Kollégium), visiting altogether eighteen schools in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Hajdú-Bihar counties, and presenting the education at our University and the scholarship programme to nearly a thousand high schoolers.

80 students from virtually every corner of the country – even beyond the three counties designated for the first year – answered the call for application of the scholarship programme. Launched this year by MOME to help high schoolers from less affluent families, the 18-month scholarship programme seeks to create opportunities for high school talents in Hungary’s poorest regions by putting a creative career within their reach, and by providing professional and mental preparation, help 25 young people each year to pass the admission entrance examination.

Under the programme, MOME will provide a scholarship to 25 students in difficult circumstances each year. The scholarship recipients will visit Budapest for the first time in February, and will participate in a 6-month creative skill development course. In addition to nearly 20 weekend sessions providing support with building their portfolios, they will be offered professional and mental preparation, leisure and sports activities, and community building events. Throughout the programme, mental health care and confidence building support will be a strong focus of the work that will also involve teachers and parents.

The programme is sponsored by the Pallas Athene Domus Meriti Foundation, the National Talent Center, and EOX Kft.

Opportunities created for young people will positively impact all of our futures A new chapter is beginning in the life of MOME. The institution, which has played a definitive role in Hungary's design culture in addition to being an innovator in higher education, is set to elevate its operations further through the "University of the Future" programme. The new rector of MOME, designer Pál Koós, began his term on August 1st, supported in an innovative manner by Dr Petra Aczél, communication and media researcher, as Vice-Rector for Excellence, and Lili Érmezei, photographer and organisational psychologist, as Vice-Rector for Strategy and Development. What new leadership competencies and formats are required by a university undergoing transformation? What do a highly effective organisation and a perfectly designed three-legged stool have in common?
