Design Thinking in Public Education

The HEAD program, developed for primary and secondary schools, is a pedagogical initiative designed to effectively develop problem-solving thinking.

The program applies a unique methodology of project-based learning that originates from the world of innovation and design, adapting the steps of design thinking to teaching and learning situations. By its very nature, the method is not tied to any specific subject, and within the school environment, it encourages interdisciplinary collaboration. It envisions a practice-oriented learning process capable of organizing the curriculum around realistic, complex problem situations. Thus, the HEAD program is a holistic (H), collaboration-based (EA), design (D) educational framework, primarily focused on the development of thinking.

The success of this methodology is supported by two key factors:
First, the problem situations that guide the learning process—and their collaborative resolution—offer students the opportunity for experience-based learning.
Second, the clearly defined and didactically interpretable solution steps involved in problem-solving ensure that teachers can achieve reliable pedagogical outcomes.

The development of the program has been supported by diverse fields of knowledge—especially the intersection of pedagogy and design. At the same time, the active involvement of schools and teachers in the development process helps ensure that the final result is truly valuable for public education. In essence, the HEAD program is a research-supported school development initiative, where real-life implementation and collaboration validate the effectiveness of the methodological innovation.
