MOME popup exhibition sparkles at the Shine! – The Time of Jewellery showcase at the National Museum

A pop-up exhibition featuring jewellery pieces created by former and current students and educators from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) will open on 17 December at the Hungarian National Museum as part of the Shine! – The Time of Jewellery exhibition. The event will include a roundtable discussion moderated by art historian and head of the MOME Rector’s Cabinet Krisztina Kovács with contemporary jewellery designer and MOME teacher Flóra Vági, art collector Katalin Spengler, and jewellery curator Dr. Erika Kiss of the Hungarian National Museum about the interplay between tradition and innovation.

The Hungarian National Museum’s Shine! exhibition, which opened in mid-October, spans 40,000 years, tracing the history of jewellery from prehistoric times to the present day, and explores how jewellery has embodied aesthetic and personal value while uncovering the symbolic meanings and deeper insights it offers about its wearers.

The exhibition already includes works by MOME artists such as Flóra Vági, Nóra Tengely, Zoltán Tóth, and Antal Zilahi. However, starting 17 December, six additional display cases in the museum’s cupola hall will be added, showcasing exquisite masterpieces of contemporary jewellery design.  The pop-up exhibition’s fresh additions include the H2O jewellery collection by MOME student Luca Sági, jewellery made from borax, magnesium sulphate, dried plants, yellow and red copper, and stainless steel by MOME alumna Fanni Nagy, a spring-steel and silicone bracelet by MOME alumna Szilvia Rémiás, and a Velociraptor-shaped brooch by MOME alumna Sára Szeredi.

To celebrate this expansion, a roundtable discussion will be held featuring art collector Katalin Spengler, jewellery artist and head of the MA programme Flóra Vági, and chief curator of the Hungarian National Museum Erika Kiss, exploring the intersection of tradition and innovation together with art historian and head of MOME’s Rector’s Cabinet Krisztina Kovács.
