Good habits for a better life - How to build good habits and break bad habits

Discussion with author and behavioural researcher Nir Eyal

We’re slaves of our habits, but it doesn’t need to be that way – we can form ones that actually work for us. But what drives habits, and what do habits drive? We can find out the answers from author of Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products and Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life Nir Eyal, the guest speaker at this year's MOME graduation ceremony. In addition to delivering an inspiring speech at the ceremony itself, he will also give a special talk on 26 June to engage with the entire MOME community in an informal discussion.

Dubbed the prophet of habit-forming technology, Eyal works in the intersection of psychology, technology, and business. As a behavioural researcher, he seeks answers to questions such as how technology and products can be designed to create positive habits in users, and how to maintain our focus to achieve our goals. In his talk moderated by organisational psychologist, strategist, and Rector's Commissioner at MOME Lili Érmezei, he will discuss the phenomenon of losing focus and getting distracted, highlighting that despite the processes and reasons being accessible to everyone online, we still struggle to overcome them. His guidance may prove tremendously helpful in a world where we are constantly bombarded with digital distractions, leaving us with a lot of frustration over tasks left undone.

The event will be held in English, sponsored by the Foundation for Moholy-Nagy University and Design as part of the Global Voices initiative.
