The cosmos will be the central theme of the fourth edition of the JUMP INTO THE FUTURE! competition
The focus of the fourth edition of the competition is space and the future, and participants can reflect together with MOME teachers on what life, education, and spending leisure time will be like 20 years from now. With help from the university’s teachers, students in the second round can develop their designs as part of a several-week-long intensive mentoring process.
There will be plenty of prizes this year too, including a Micro: BIT Thinker Kit, tickets to the Light Art Museum and other valuable items. However, perhaps the greatest benefit of the competition is the opportunity to grow professionally and to gain knowledge that can be applied later in life for one’s academic or professional careers. It also supports career orientation, with workshops for mastering the basics of design methods, prototyping techniques, and storytelling.
Last year’s edition was tremendously popular, with over 300 students registering and 10 teams proceeding to the second round. The winning project, Purple Pioneers looked at the economic and social problems as well as the geographical properties of the Great Hungarian Plain and would provide complex support to disadvantaged families instead of focusing on individual students. According to the design, the school and residence hall of the future is not only fully green but also inclusive and self-sustaining. Three of the team members – Júlia Murber, Zorka Czibók, and Ráhel Prasch – are students of the Pécs Secondary School of Arts, while the fourth one is from the Janus Pannonius Secondary Grammar School in Pécs.
The teamwork and creativity-focused competition invites teams of 2 to 5. As the plans only need to be submitted later, registrations are already open on the competition interface until 18 March midnight.
This year, MOME Rector and animation film director József Fülöp will be also involved in the jury’s work, along with head of MOME’s Teacher Training programme and associate professor Judit Bényei, Finland-based Hungarian education researcher and university professor Dr. Kristóf Fenyvesi, and member of the winning team of the first JUMP INTO THE FUTURE! competition and MOME student Luca Gátos.
An informal webinar on 8 March will provide information about the competition process, the key milestones, and the individuals who will be involved. The competition will run for 6 months, and culminate in the finale in late June, where teams will have an opportunity to present their concepts.
