At the Best of MOME ‘23 event, this year’s top MA diploma projects from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design will be making a debut in the form of short presentations on 14 October at the Kastner Kommunity. The presentations will be followed by a roundtable discussion with last year’s Best of MOME speakers, sharing their experience, projects and challenges of the most recent period, and a networking event featuring fresh graduates and the representatives of the university.

The two-day BDW20/MOME Forma - Product design works from recent years mini exhibition will feature outstanding concepts, prototypes, and models of recent years designed by MOME Product Design BA and MA students at the Roth Miksa Memorial House, providing insight into the semester assignments of the programme and the challenges faced by students.   
The Manage [it] Yourself professional roundtable discussion on the collaboration between artists and managers, and self-management, will be organised for the 10th year in a row by the Art and Design Management programme, followed by retrospective presentations with former Art and Design Management students who graduated in the last decade presenting their professional experience through individual projects. The event will conclude with a Q&A session.  

Gerbaud House is celebrating its 165 birthday this year, which will be marked by a weekend’s worth of events by Onyx Workshop and the MOME Designer Maker programme, featuring special dessert serving plates designed by the students around the Gerbaud legacy, and presenting Gerbaud’s signature classics and their backstories. The nine unique serving designs are an extraordinary example of the fusion of tradition and innovation. The event will also include a discussion with Chief Executive Officer of Gerbeaud Gasztronómia Kft. Anna Niszkács, food designer, head of the Designer Maker, and art director of the Onyx Creative Community Angéla Góg DLA, and will be attended by senior teacher Edit Kondor, as well as students.

On 11 October, a retrospective lecture entitled Designer between Recognition and Purpose will be presented by Mirko Ilic on the MOME Campus, exploring the role of fame and recognition in the lives of graphic designers and designers and how to stay true to their callings and goals in an age when 15 minutes of fame can overwrite everything. Born in Bosnia and currently based in New York, graphic designer and poster designer Mirko Ilić is a prominent figure of the global graphic design scene. In addition to launching the world-famous TOLERANCE POSTER SHOW traveling poster exhibition, he runs a studio in New York and works as a professor at the School of Visual Arts. Many of his works are featured in the collection of MoMA in New York and in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and two of his books have been published recently. Co-authored with Steven Heller and Beth Kleber, Milton Glaser: POP is an overview of the work of iconic illustrator and designer Milton Glaser during the 1960s and 70s, and will also be covered in the lecture. 

The MOME Gond-űző will be home to the Space/perceptions exhibition that is in fact a photography experiment demonstrating how the photographers perceive the same spaces carrying shadows of the past and at the same time, the promise of the future. One is an abandoned factory building with all the work equipment, personal belongings, and production waste left there, while the other one is a farm where every inch of space is either utilised or serves a purpose. Photographers of the Photography MA alumni group exhibition Anna Bányász, Emőke Kerekes, Iza Nagy, Zsófi Sivák and Ákos Karácsony explored the social significance these locations hold. They spent two intense days at the sites, processing their own impressions and giving way to free associations. 
 
MOME-related events will also take place as part of the extended Unknown IPARTERV exhibition at the Rózsi Walter villa. The Bound to Inspire pocket book making workshop  will be held by MOME alumni graphic designers Lamm Lenke and Zsuzsá Oláh creating the visual identity for the exhibition, and a guided tour of the exhibition developed in collaboration between the MOME Design Theory programme and the Hungarian Museum of Architecture and presenting the history and era of the legendary architecture bureau will be given by university professors András Ferkai and Péter Haba on 8 October. 
 
Additionally, MOME will also be present at the central events of the BDW, including joining in the JövőKÉP initiative involving Hungarian higher education institutions presenting their new training models that help shape the future, and lectures by head of the MOME Mobility Design Lab Dániel Ruppert and research associate of the MOME Innovation Center Sebastian Gschanes, who will cover the gardening aspects of speculative design at the Ethnographic Museum – the main location of the festival – on 10 October. 

An installation bringing to life major moments of Hungarian design from the past two decades, as well as achievements and memories of the festival, and displaying works by several professionals graduated from the University and making them accessible for browsing. In addition to the chamber exhibition, as per usual, a showcase of this year’s recipients of the Hungarian Product Design Award and the Design Management Award will also be on display.
